Blog Post #6
Have you been chosen? So there is a bible study that Joyce Meyer released on the book of Ephesians. The first line of the study is “Everyone wants to be chosen”. Every time I read that I feel it in my soul. So I started to think about what does it mean to be chosen.
Chosen means in the dictionary “having been selected as the best or most appropriate” it is past tense for choose. Also, can mean hand-picked. When I think about chosen a few things come to mind like JESUS of course. But then its Star Wars the whole prism of the movie is centered around the chosen one to bring balance to the force. If you are into sports there is Lebron James. By the way, he is my imaginary cousin from Akron. Now I am sure more things come to mind then my three examples. But I guess what sums that up is we all want to be chosen. So let’s explore being chosen in Pop Culture, sports and save the best for last Jesus.
Even in pop culture we all explore wanting to be the chosen one. I mean think about the Bachelor or Bachelorette, American Idol, The Voice. Also, in most award systems there is only one winner or one chosen. The first Star Wars film was released in 1977 and for at least 42 years we have been waiting on the chosen one to bring balance to the force. Then in sports in 2002 Sport Illustrated released a young Lebron James on the cover dubbing him the chosen one. Back then in the NBA thought they were overhyping Lebron James. Many now argue that he was the best that ever did it in the game of basketball. Can you imagine the pressure of being the chosen no matter the facet it is in life? Lebron James has dubbed himself the King. But heavy is the head that wears the crown. When you are chosen it has responsibilities and morals. Everyone wants to be chosen but can you bare the crown. Most artists want to be chosen as number one but have a hard time following up. But with Jesus, we are all number one.
Now let’s talk about the true chosen one. The everlasting King of Kings Jesus. Unlike the imaginary chosen or the battle to be chosen. Even the earthly chosen is often chosen by men. Jesus is the first chosen true king his kingdom was set before creation. In the Bible, there is a chosen people. But can I break some news to you so are you. You are Chosen! See if you are like me who struggles with feeling unneeded and unnoticed. You often feel less than but it’s a lie. Why would God waste his time with making something not useful for his glory? Have you stop to think you are his glory and a jewel in his eyes. Now ask yourself this do you have to be constantly reassured of your place on earth?
My friend, you haven’t accepted he chose you and yes you. You might think he doesn’t want me I have done too much. ALL LIES! There is never a place too far where God can’t find you and keep you. Yes, you are a descendent of the Almighty God!
“According to as he hath chosen us in him before the foundation of the world, that we should be holy and without blame before him in love: Having predestinated us unto the adoption of children by Jesus Christ to himself, according to the good pleasure of his will, To the praise of the glory of his grace, wherein he hath made us accepted in the beloved.”
Ephesians 1:4-6 KJV
When he died for our sins we were the successors of the kingdom on earth. It’s our job to make sure that we bring others to his throne when this earth passes away. So just like when King George VI died Queen Elizabeth II had to carry the kingdom on as a successor. Now go shine!
So many times in my life I felt unworthy because of the response of others. Or I have felt the fear of stepping out on faith. But I refuse for others to take away the greatness God has bestowed upon me. I played the background and not kept my crown on my head. Rather you are Lebron James or whomever with any crown comes sacrifice and responsibility. With that there is accountability know when you wear his crown you represent him. And if you fall remember his mercy and grace. Don’t forget you are handpicked.
“But ye are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, an holy nation, a peculiar people; that ye should shew forth the praises of him who hath called you out of darkness into his marvellous light: Which in time past were not a people, but are now the people of God: which had not obtained mercy, but now have obtained mercy.”
1 Peter 2:9-10 KJV
Wow well said . So proud to be chosen.
